The Power of Positivity

April 26, 2017

In a world where everything is defined by what you do, where you go and how you look, it can be difficult to stay positive and have a kind attitude towards yourself. With my friends, family and clients I love helping them come to terms with loving themselves and appreciating the moment. We all have days when we feel so great, like nothing can bring us down. But then there are tougher days that leave us feeling pretty low.

I’d like to share a few ways that have helped me keep a positive attitude on the tough days:

You Are You. I constantly have to remind myself and others that every person is different. Everyone has their own challenges and accomplishments and when obstacles arrive remember you are your own unique person. That’s what makes you special! Nobody else is like you, so rock what you’ve got!

Motivational Sticky Notes. One thing that I have done for the past few years is place sticky notes or cut outs of my favorite motivational quotes on my bathroom or bedroom mirror. Put them somewhere where you can see them every day. Read it. Believe it.

Or use an app! I just started downloading an Affirmations app. It sends you daily affirmations you read or record yourself saying out loud and you can save your favorite ones.

Create ME Time. Between all our responsibilities, us humans get so caught up on going, going, going and never truly sit down to appreciate the fact that we are alive. We are here to enjoy, learn and grow another day. The past year or so I started making time every day for myself. This has helped me tremendously! It could be just 10 minutes or up to an hour at night. I make time to sit down with just me myself and I. I will color, read, listen to meditation music or just lay down and close my eyes. Making the time to just appreciate the moment and relax has helped me be more productive and stress less throughout the day.

Gratitude Journal. I recently started creating my own gratitude journal. Every night I will write down things that I was grateful for, the things I enjoyed and events or situations where I felt proud of and positively about myself.  Writing these thoughts down it has helped me realize each day brings something new to the table and to focus on the good and not the bad.

It’s Not Always Easy. Yes, you will have those bad days but you will also have those good days! When those bad days or moments come just remember it’s only a bump in the road and think back to what went well for that day.

Life isn’t always perfect but you can still turn the day around no matter what happens. These tips have helped me take it day by day and stay positive throughout the hard times and I hope they help you as well!
